Barcelona confirm key sporting director departure

Barcelona have confirmed Jordi Cruyff will leave Camp Nou this summer after two years as sporting director.

Cruyff left Chinese side Shenzhen in September 2021 to link up with Barcelona president Joan Laporta and has since played a significant role in the club’s transfer business.

His contract expires in the summer and Barcelona have now confirmed the Dutchman has chosen not to extend his stay in Catalonia. The UFABET report

“FC sporting director Jordi Cruyff will not be renewing his contract at the end of the current season due to his wish to embark on new professional endeavours,” said in a statement.

“He announced his decision this Tuesday morning to president Joan Laporta at an emotional meeting in which he explained that after two years in his position, he is leaving to face new challenges.

“He also most sincerely thanked the president for his trust and for offering him the chance to come to FC Barcelona two years ago.

“FC Barcelona wishes to thank Jordi Cruyff for his important contributions as a member of the Sports Commission and wishes him all the very best of fortune in his future professional career.”

Fellow director Mateu Alemany has also confirmed his imminent exit from Barcelona, vowing to complete all his pending business before walking away.

Alemany, who cited a desire for a ‘new professional project’ when explaining his exit, is expected to join Aston Villa.
